Digital Electronics and Renewable Energy Go Hand in Hand

Someone once said "It takes money to make money," and that is mostly true. Today, we might add, "It takes energy to make money," with reference to all the wondrous digital electronics we use every day to conduct business and create things. Problem is that it can take quite a lot of energy to run all the computers, peripherals, big screen display and multimedia installations in our homes and offices. And a bunch more to keep all those cell phones, digital cameras, GPS systems, iPods and handheld gaming systems charged and ready to go. So while the cost of energy keeps rising, and more and more people realize that climate changes, pollution and diminishing oil reserves demand a move towards renewable energy sources, we consume more and more with all of our beloved electronics.

Does that mean that the very progress that brought us the wonderful world of digital electronics is also digging us into a deeper and deeper hole of energy dependence and spiraling monetary and environmental costs? It doesn't have to be that way. Business and the environment do not have to be at odds. There is, in fact, a green electronics movement that seeks to make our beloved electronics more energy efficient and environmentally friendlier. The movement covers the entire spectrum from huge international conglomerates pledging to recycle, reuse and conserve, all the way to electronics being more energy-efficient and either bio-degradable or easier to recycle, thus reducing what is now called "e-waste" from millions of tons of landfill to reused and recycled resources.

Saving energy and recycling makes perfect sense, and it's no surprise that there are now companies devoting themselves to green electronics and energy sustainability. After all, it's good PR and makes economic sense. But it goes farther than that. There are now even companies that sell both digital electronics AND renewable energy products. It's easy to see how a firm belief in renewable energy, conservation and sound energy policies may drive an environmentally conscious business owner to sell items like solar and wind energy products as well as digital electronics made by companies that have realized that business and society are interdependent and thus embraced green technology.

What is "green technology?" It can be products certified for low emissions, products certified to be more energy-efficient (like the Energy Star pledge and standard), or products using solar chargers or other energy saving technologies. It can also mean support of companies that are actively "going green" by increasing recyclable content, removing environmentally harmful substances, using renewable energy in the production cycle, and supporting environmental conservation causes and projects.

Why would companies go green? Because it's not only the right thing to do, but also because it's an increasing competitive advantage to be seen as a green company that cares about the environment. Just like a lot of consumers reject pesticides and insist on organically grown food products, more and more consumers insist on buying green, energy-efficient technology from companies that care. It's good to know that megahits like iPhones and Wii gaming consoles are made by such companies.

What we're seeing here is really an inevitable, accelerating trend towards smarter, greener and more efficient and conscientious consumption. We all must fight waste and embrace clean, sustainable, renewable energy.

Global Warming Taxes Could Slow Overseas Property Markets

The call for new taxes on flights to reduce carbon emissions could impact the prices of properties, according to a UK based overseas property company.

'There has been more discussion and calls for action recently over the impact that air travel is having on the environment,' they say, 'And one of the most obvious ways to cut air travel is to raise the price of travelling through taxes. It's a win-win situation for governments, more tax revenue and being seen combating global warming at the same time. It's only a matter of time before cheap air fares on the scale we see it today comes to an end'.

Owning a second home and a property abroad has shown to be an aspiration for the majority of UK residents by recent surveys, and low cost carriers have opened up new overseas property markets by flying to destinations not covered by other airlines, or forcing flight prices down where they compete directly with more established carriers.

Property prices within a one hour drive of regional airports served by the low cost airlines have tended to escalate in recent years, and it is these areas that would be hardest hit by any increased taxes on flying.

The areas which would feel least impact would be northern France, which many UK second home owners access via ferry and the Channel Tunnel, and areas where owning a property abroad was in vogue long before the new airlines started, and when air fares were proportionately higher than they are today. Access to France from the UK has improved recently with Eurotunnel cutting the journey time by twenty minutes.

'The Costa del Sol for example we feel wouldn't be impacted much by increased air taxes - although over development could bring prices down there anyway'.

But there is a warning that the lower priced end of the market could be hit more than the top end.
Bargain Properties

'There has been a significant increase in second home ownership in the last decade', say the company. 'Gone are the days when it was just the wealthy who owned an overseas property. Developers in Spain, Greece and Cyprus have built apartment blocks with units of two and three bedrooms that are affordable for a lot of middle income families. Given that mortgages are readily available and it's often just twenty per cent of the asking price that needs to be found an overseas home has become reality for millions of Europeans. But if air fares increase significantly and the holiday makers who rent the owners apartments and villas declines, quite a few will need to sell as the rental income pays the mortgage. There could be a glut of properties come to the market which will send prices downwards.'

Exceptions to the rule could be in the two European tax havens of Monaco and Andorra, where there is no income tax for residents.

'Historically tax havens have been popular no matter how the economy is. When someone buys a property in Monaco it often doesn't matter to them if it's a few million Euros as they're going to save more than that in tax during the time they stay there. Andorra is slightly different as it's a tax haven but also people buy ski apartments there, adding to demand'.

Andorra property prices have risen an average of ten per cent a year in the last decade, and some predictions are for that figure to be closer to fifteen per cent for 2006.

If governments do start introducing new air fare taxes to slow and possibly reverse the rise in air travel there could be good news for some property buyers though.

'In some areas the second home market has increased prices significantly, with many of the younger local population being forced to move away from their towns and villages.

The UK and US populations are quite mobile, but in some countries popular with holiday home buyers there are three or four generations of the same family in a village or town. But as overseas property buyers have moved in and pushed prices up, the younger generations ahave been forced to look away from these popular areas because they cannot afford a property in their home town anymore, and a lot of the local employment has become seasonal. If real estate prices come down they might be able to afford to live in the villages where they were brought up if they choose to do so. Some will still move away but at least they will have a choice.'

Conversely, far from changing traditional towns and villages into holiday resorts, overseas property buyers can sometimes have a positive affect on preserving traditional village life.

'In France for example, many of the rural villages were dying a slow death as the younger generations moved away to the bigger towns and cities to find work. British second home buyers have revived the villages by buying run down properties and renovated them, breathing new life into the communities. The property market is nothing if it isn't adaptable,' they conclude, 'And while there will be regions that will suffer as a result of a declining market, there will be winners too.'

Green Tech Investing - Wind Farms

Green Tech investing is heating up. As the climate change becomes more of a hot topic, investors look for profit in earth-friendly areas. Today, I'm going to briefly talk about one alternative energy source-wind farms.

You may have seen a wind farm before. If not, they're collections of wind turbines-looking quite majestic. Typically, you'll find wind farms where the air currents are best-California, Texas, Coppenhagen, etc.

It's a common misconception that wind farms need to be built on land terrains, such as hills. There are also offshore wind farms. The coastal areas are perfect because of the constant wind flow that is associated with the area.

As the wind cranks up the wind turbines, electricity is generated. The blades on the wind turbine spin the shaft, which is connected to a generator. That generator uses its magnetic field to convert the energy into the electricity, which is then transported to a transformer. From there, it's converted to the appropriate voltage and we all get to enjoy it.

Over the last couple of years investments in the Green Tech field have exploded by 500% and there's no sign of this slowing down. Wall Street has many stocks that you can invest in to take advantage of this growth. Perhaps one of the best things about Green Tech investing is being able to profit off of something that's help make the Earth a better place. Nuclear Energy and the Federal Deficit

The advantages of using Nuclear Power should be apparent to everybody with common sense, especially now with the resurfacing of the Global Warming and the Federal Deficit. Approximately 20% of the Federal Deficit is the value of imported oil.

The politics of nuclear energy, however, is rather complicated. In the U.S. the Congress has mainly favored nuclear energy, with the Republicans more so than the Democrats. Around 1990 a bill simplifying the licensing process for new plants became law. In the early 90s Congress voted to store nuclear waste in Nevada if the studies turned out favorable. Lengthy studies came out favorable around 2000, and in 2002 Congress voted to override the opposition oft he State of Nevada. Apparently lawsuits will tie up actual construction for a while, but it is expected that the storage of waste in Nevada will begin around 2010.

There has been a virtual moratorium on nuclear power plants in the United States during the past generation, and it has many causes. But one significant factor in the industry's decline was the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC) licensing process. This process didn't allow approval of the plants until after construction. This caused many costly delays while the completed plants were idling waiting for their operating licenses.

The old regulatory process, established in 1956, had been widely seen as a cumbersome failure. In 1992, the NRC established two new processes to streamline nuclear plant licensing. By 2003, however, after the September 11 attacks, the California blackouts, the steep rise in the cost of gas powered electricity and the growing concerns of global warming, nuclear power again became an option.

In contrast to the old Part 50 procedure, the new 10-CFR 52 or "Part52" regulation aim to settle questions about sitting, design, and operating licensing issues well before you start construction. Standardization of every aspect of an application's form and contest is also a crucial feature of Part 52. With this approach, the NRC will have to review and approve a specific design only once. After that, NRC needs to check only the areas where the applicant differs, such as environmental characteristics of the specific site.

According to Mechanical Engineering, October 2007, other future reactors will likely be one of the two designs below:

1. The AP-1000 power plant designed by Westinghouse, 1.1 gigawatt pressurized water reactor. According to Westinghouse, the design features two steam generators connected to the reactor pressure vessel and an array of passive safety system that don't require AC power or cooling water to be operational.

2. The other plant is General Electric design called the Economic Simplified Boiling Water reactor. The recirculation and safety system pumps have been replaced by natural gravity-driven water circulation and passive safety systems.

A switch to nuclear energy will cause there to be economic winners and losers. The potential losers will be tempted to resist the process politically. The winners, of course, are the nuclear industry itself as well as the construction industry. The public in general will win too. The losers are the coal industry, the oil industry, and the alternative energy industry. The alternative energy industry hasn't generated an appreciable amount of energy but has absorbed much Government money, and has absorbed much research energy in the academic world.

The capital cost for electric power plants is in the neighborhood of $1000 per installed kilowatt. It is somewhat lower for gas-fired turbines and often much higher for some nuclear plants (where construction delays and post facto safety regulations have raised costs considerably). These capital costs will have been largely amortized for nuclear plants whose license to operate is being extended.

Fueling a reactor for one year requires approximately 350,000 lb of raw uranium to produce about 1,000 MW of electricity for about 7500 hours. At $10 per pound, this is 0.04 cents per KW-h. These are rough numbers I found them in my notes.

Over 78% of French electricity demands are met by nuclear energy. This was one of the goals of the French Nuclear program, to decrease French dependence on foreign energy sources. As of September 30, 2007 there were a total of 197 nuclear power plant units with an installed electric net capacity of 169,842 MWe in operation in Europe and 12 units with 9,991 MWe were under
construction in five countries.

Bio Fuel and Bio Diesel Distribution from Commercial to Consumer Markets

We all know we must kick the habit and our addiction to foreign oil. But how can we quickly ramp up our efforts to grow our own fuel. How can we move closer to growing our percentage of use to Bio Fuels and Bio Diesel?

We must build distribution system, which are more robust to handle the demand, which will be needed if we are to complete our vision. I propose that we start with a greater push on Commercial and then move to Consumer Markets, as we know we can handle the volumes. My original thoughts are to offer tax incentives to large Point-to-Point Trucking company carriers, bus companies (Greyhound, city, charter) and car dealerships to put in fuel cell fuel stops; This is part of my strategy over all.

Also realize that Car Dealerships are now offering oil changes, car washes, etc. To increase customer traffic and brand loyalty, as well as keeping the maintenance shops busy.

One problem in all of this is; "do they really want to change?" after all it would shake up the status quo and we need to ask the Oil Companies and US Automakers if they are willing to come along other wise it will not work of course. Lobbyists, lawyers and regulators will shut down any attempt to tap into current business model. But since we are dealing in hypotheticals on a potentially doable vision to kick the addiction, we should all continue and work thru the distribution issues based on theories of moving products and services which work. Consider this in 2008.

Malunggay's Moringa Oil Seen as Biofuel Source

As the Philippines seeks better ways to use its resources in combating climate change, a new discovery by a Filipino biotechnology company based in the U.S. has tapped a wonder plant in the country as a source of biofuel.

Malunggay, scientifically known as Moringa oleifera Lamk, which is widely grown in the Philippines and is considered one the world's most useful plants, is found as a good source of Moringa oil. This oil is believed to be a biofuel source.

SECURA International announced that malunggay oil is being tapped by the North American Biofuels Inc. (NABI) since January as possible raw material for biodiesel production. As a result, the former is currently growing malunggay in 500,000-hectare farmland to meet the demands of NABI.

Since malunggay can easily be grown in the country, SECURA International president Danny Manayaga encouraged the Filipino farmers to take advantage of the situation in meeting the demands of the world for the Moringa oil supply to be used as biodiesel.

Manayaga said this business is sustainable since the market is very accessible. Currently, there are 165 marketing companies in the U.S. for biodiesel using soybean oil as raw material. It is expected that in the next 50 years, Japan and Korea will be the biggest markets of Moringa oil for their automobiles that will use biodiesel.

Others might be thinking of the real viability of Moringa oil as biodiesel. But the NABI has already authenticated that it has passed the biofuels standards. This means doubts of whether this can truly be used are over.

Earlier, the Philippine government is endorsing jatropha as a source of biofuel. However, Manayaga said Moringa oil is more useful that jatropha. What makes malunggay better than the jatropha is that malunggay is 100 percent usable; all parts are biodegradable. Unlike jatropha, it has a toxic part. Once its oil is extracted, the left-over part becomes a nuclear waste according to the findings.

With malunggay as a biofuel source in the Philippines, the country may in some way help other countries reduce the impact of global warming by sharing the benefits of Moringa oil.

Wind Farms In The Hawaiian Islands

The beauty of the Hawaiian Islands is undisputed. If you look closely at the lush green hills, you might just see wind farms producing energy for homes and business at the beach.

Wind Farms In The Hawaiian Islands

Wind power is an alternative energy source that has gained popularity over recent years. Although windmills have been used for centuries to power machines and to create other energy, it wasn't until recently that wind power has become a truly formidable energy source. Wind turbines have replaced the windmill, and these turbines are able to harness the wind's power and transform it into electricity that can be used by us all. This renewable, pollution-free, economical source of energy has the ability to change the world - and many countries are taking advantage of this free source of energy by building wind farms. As your might imagine, the Hawaiian Islands are a prime location for wind power and the state takes advantage of it.

A wind farm is a collection of large wind turbines, all of which are collecting wind energy and converting it into electricity. Hawaiian wind farm usage started in 1980, with the building of wind farm MOD-0A in Kahuku. Hawaiians have been using the power of the wind for centuries. While the Hawaiian wind farm built at Kahuku was the first wind farm here, the building didn't stop with just that one location. Over the next years, seven more wind farms were built on the Hawaiian Islands. The largest wind farm still in operation is at Lalamilo Wells. This wind farm, built in 1985, is still being run by the Hawaii Electric Light Company.

The Lalamilo Wells Hawaiian wind farm operates with 81 turbines running, and it produces power that is used by the general public. Other, smaller, wind farms are located on the other islands. Some have been shut down due to damage or disuse, but others are still used in limited capacity for personal and industrial needs. Wind is an excellent resource for power on the island as the trade winds, Moa'e, come through this area producing high wind speeds and allowing for better electricity generation.

While wind farms are a recent addition (within the last 30 years) to Hawaiian energy resources, they are sure to continue to grow. The interesting evolution being seen one the islands is, however, away from the large wind farm and to personal use. Perhaps it is the expensive nature of the land, but what is particularly interesting is the fact that so many are creating their own, personal wind farm in lieu of industrial versions.

Wind Farm Efficiency

Wind power is an incredibly clean renewable power source. To capture the energy in wind, wind farms are used. So, how about wind farm efficiency?

Wind Farm Efficiency

Wind power is the process by which wind is used to generate power or electricity. The power of the wind is actually a form of solar power – wind change and variability is caused by uneven heating of the ground by the sun. In order to fully use the power that the wind is capable of generating, many countries have set up wind farms. In a wind farm, many different wind turbines (a structure that uses a propeller-like blade to take in the wind's power) are set up in an area. With all the wind turbines working at the same time, it's thought that these farms are a great way to produce large amounts of electricity.

To determine the efficiency of wind farms, you need to know how a wind farm works. The wind turbines collect the power of the wind in two steps: the propeller blades are turned by the gusts of wind, and the propeller then turns a shaft. This turning shaft is connected to a generator. The spinning action cranks the generator, which then produces electricity. The process is exactly like hydropower, but with wind acting as the energy source instead of flowing water. Just one wind turbine set up in an area will not produce very much electricity, and is not very good for powering large areas - these small turbines are usually used to power just one farm or house or occasionally to pump water.

Wind farms, on the other hand, are more powerful because there is a large grouping of the wind turbines in one area, all working in unison to produce electricity. The energy can then be run to whole communities through existing utility grids or stored in battery-like storage cells. Wind turbines can be set up to face the wind or face away from the wind. Modern wind turbines can also turn to catch the wind as it gusts from different angles, a factor which makes them far more efficient than before. The larger the turbine's blades and the taller the turbine's height will increase the efficiency as well.

The exact efficiency of wind farms is nearly impossible to pinpoint. The problem is found in the factors that go into the analysis. The terrain, amount of wind, size of turbines and so on varies from wind farm to farm. There is no constant, which makes it difficult to nail down general efficiency ratings. In general, a single wind turbine will convert about 20 percent of the energy in wind to electricity. The most efficient production occurs between five and 20 miles an hour of wind speed. This general 20 percent efficiency rating is roughly seven to five percent more efficient than solar power, but sunlight is constant whereas wind is not.

While wind technology has not yet progressed to a point where no energy is lost while harnessing it, it is fair to say that the platform is favorable compared to other renewable sources. It may take a while for the whole world to catch on to using the power of the wind, but it's definitely fast becoming an important alternative energy source. Countries such as Germany are certainly investing a lot into the platform.

Global Warming-How It Could Spark World War III

These Days global warming is a very hot topic and little wonder, seeing as the earth grows hotter with each passing year.

For a long time now the effect of man's industrialization and technological progress has quietly yet continuously eked away at the delicate balance of the planet's atmosphere and ecosystem, but within the last 30 or so years the pace of this damage has markedly accelerated!

DOWNPLAYING GLOBAL WARMING

In much the same way that big tobacco once vehemently denied the association between cigarette smoking and lung cancer, for the longest time a number of multi-billion-dollar-a-year industries have also been questioning the existence of global warming and misleading the public about its reality.

In fact the Bush II years have been particular devastating to Environmental Protection Rights, yet staggeringly lucrative for those who would profit from the loss of such protection.

In what can best be described as an orgy-fest of self-congratulatory backslapping, many a heavyweight lobbyist for industries such as oil, coal, mining, logging, aviation and auto manufacturers have left the Bush Whitehouse grinning like the proverbial Cheshire cat because they'd gotten firm assurance that pesky environmental laws would never get in the way of business as usual!

An example of how the Bush II Administration misled the public into believing they were truly concerned about protecting the environment was the sneaky way in which they enacted laws such as The Clean Skies Act.

The Clean Skies Act introduced in February 2003 apparently appears to strengthen already existent environmental laws such as The Clean Air Act but which in reality actually weakened and undermined them.

The Clean Skies Act gave pollutant industries a lot of leeway allowing them to spew an additional 42 million more tons of pollution into the atmosphere and raised caps on greenhouse gas emissions.

Soon after Bush II came to power the situation got so bad, that after decades of effective service, two of the most senior enforcement officials in the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) resigned citing an agency that was pursuing contrary goals to that of actually protecting the environment.

Former US vice president Al Gore is no stranger to these tactics. As perhaps the most widely recognizable face in the fight against global warming he has been scoffed at and ridiculed by the same individuals who would have us believe global warming is nothing more than a myth!

Recently in 2007 several scientists have gone on public record citing claims of a gestapo-like environment of intimidation to produce figures and reports that belied the true extent of global warming!

CAUSE OF GLOBAL WARMING

The unprecedented super-accelerated rate of global warming happening today is due to the amount of greenhouse gases being spewed into the atmosphere.

The most notorious greenhouse gas is carbon dioxide (CO2) because it so happens to be the biggest single contributing factor to global warming (CO2 comprises more than 75% of all greenhouse gases). So what's spewing all that CO2 in the air? Simply put--mankind and his toys!

Some of the biggest greenhouse gas pollutants include automobiles; electricity production; planes; shipping and the various manufacturing industries dotted all over the globe.

SCIENCE OF GLOBAL WARMING

This article is intentionally not an in-depth treatise of the process of global warming, but having said that, here's a brief explanation:

The rays from the sun are comprised of shortwave solar radiation which pass through the atmosphere and are then absorbed by the earth thereby warming it. Part of that absorbed energy is reflected back to the atmosphere as long wave infrared radiation which is mostly trapped by the greenhouse gases. This trapped heat ensures that the earth is approximately warmer by 33 degrees Celsius than it would otherwise be.

This trapped heat is actually good for us, for were it not for those greenhouse gases and other constituents in the atmosphere that trap heat, the earth would be as cold as Mars which has for all intents and purpose no atmosphere to speak of.

Over the past century the earth has gotten warmer by approximately 0.7 degrees Celsius. This may not seem like much until you consider that the difference between the average earth temperature of today and another ice age is a mere 5 degrees Celsius!

EFFECTS OF GLOBAL WARMING

Drought! Flooding! Disease! Hurricanes! Starvation! Unbearable Heat!
Any of these words seem to you to be appearing much more often in the news than before?

Do you remember the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami that claimed more than 200,000 people? Remember hurricane Katrina that claimed more than 2,000 lives? These are the better documented horror stories. The less well documented global-warming related stories are often dismissively written off as ethnic conflicts in a region (Africa) where supposedly little else can be expected.

CATASTROPHIC ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS CAUSED BY GLOBAL WARMING

1. Larsen B Ice Shelf: In 2002, a 500 billion ton chunk of ice that was 220m thick and covering a surface area of 3,250 sq km disintegrated in 35 days! What was especially alarming was that the experts expected this ice shelf to still be around for the next 100 years even after factoring in current global warming trends.

Yet more alarming still is that there're two other MUCH, MUCH BIGGER ice masses that are exhibiting the same global warming related disintegration characteristics!

These endangered ice masses are Greenland and the West Antarctic Ice Shelf which was previously thought to be stable. Since these ice masses are land based (unlike the Larsen B Ice Shelf) if either one of them goes they could raise sea levels by 20ft apiece!

If both of them disintegrate around the same time, sea levels could rise by 40ft! Catastrophic does not adequately describe the ensuing destruction.

More than 66% of the world's largest cities would be devastated if even just one of these ice masses disintegrated. Though many of the affected low-elevation costal areas are located in Asia, New York, Florida, San Francisco and The Netherlands are also on the list!

Perhaps this disturbing data may explain the belated, albeit grudging acknowledgement by the Bush II administration that global warming is not a myth after all and that it won't just affect the poorer regions of the world. As things stand, experts are predicting that with current unmodified global warming trends Greenland may collapse as soon as 2050.

2. Lake Chad: Lake Chad used to be the 6th largest lake in the world but due to global warming has shrunk to 1/20th of its former size. In fact Chad the country for which it is named after is now more than 60 miles from the water's edge!

3. New Ice Age: The northern hemisphere of the world is located above the equator and constitutes most of the world's land mass as well as almost 90% of the world population.

Though current expert reports on global warming imply that the northern hemisphere will initially actually benefit from the temperature increase (unlike the southern hemisphere where unprecedented drought and starvation is predicted by 2020) what is little mentioned is how global warming could usher in a new Ice Age!

Some paradox, huh? Warming leading to freezing! Here's a simplified explanation of how that comes about:

The Gulf Stream current is one of several currents that occur in the Atlantic Ocean. The particular importance of the Gulf Stream Current and its northern extension (the North Atlantic Drift which flows towards Europe) is that their warm-water flow heats up the surrounding air which in turn ensures that the temperature of the northern hemispheres does not dip precipitously.

These two currents are saline (salt) based. If a huge mass of fresh water (such as a melting body of ice the size of Greenland) was to dilute these currents, in effect that would shut down the Gulf Stream Current!

Once the Gulf Stream Current shuts down temperatures are going to drop precariously in the United States, Europe and other nations located in the northern hemisphere. When that happens those regions will deep-freeze into another Ice Age!

GLOBAL WARMING AND THE CO2 WARS

The following figures illustrate the CO2 emissions from the various regions around the globe:

USA: 30.3%
Europe: 27.7%
Russia: 13.7%
South East Asia: 12.2%
Japan: 3.7%
South America/Central America: 3.8%
Middle East: 2.6%
Africa: 2.5%
Australia: 1.1%

These figures amply illustrate how Western Europe and the United States are by far largely responsible for the effects of global warming we are seeing today.

Contrastingly the regions least responsible are the ones that will bear the brunt of those effects (initially at any rate, until such time that the process progresses to an ice age then the situation will reverse).

However, with the two mega economies of China and India expanding rapidly (each boasting a population in excess of 1 billion) soon their greenhouse gas emissions may surpass those of the U.S.

A series of meetings held in Washington in early 2007 had American legislators demanding that developing nations be held to the same greenhouse-gas-emission accountability as the developed nations! Not unexpectedly there were worldwide outcries and accusations of shameless hypocrisy leveled at the United States.

With the not unreasonable contention that they have the right to develop and advance in the same manner that both Europe and America have enjoyed over the past forty years these two looming economical giants are not about to be cowed by Washington.

Furthermore considering the suspicious manner with which the U.S. justified its invasion of Iraq, few these days are inclined to believe a word that Washington says.

Compounding this climate of distrust and suspicion are the many questionable prerogatives the U.S. claims. These include:

1. Not subscribing to the Kyoto Protocol (Treaty on Global Warming)
2. Seeking the right to pre-emptive strikes (Bush II)
3. Demanding to be exempted from The Geneva Convention (Bush II)
4. Not a participant of the World Court
5. Biggest contributor to global warming but doing the least to rectify the situation.

In a world where America demands exclusive rights to pre-emptive strikes, perhaps then it is not too far fetched to understand if India and China harbor a degree of paranoia that the U.S. may one day set its targets on them.

After all for a country that so conveniently and magically connected two totally unrelated events to one another as an excuse to pursue its ultimate goal (U.S. invasion of Iraq after 911), it is not unconceivable that the U.S. could one day claim that the greenhouse gas emissions from the Asian giants are threatening the very existence of its coastal cities and hence amount to an act of war!

For their part the Asian giants already suspiciously view Washington's demands concerning greenhouse gases as a thinly veiled attempt to restrict their economical development.

That said, China and India are hardly Iraq! These are two countries which both boast formidable nuclear arsenals that are quite capable of reaching the U.S. Besides if the U.S. were to take any drastic action it is unlikely that the slumbering Russian bear would continue dozing for much longer.

World wars have erupted over much less and in the heated climate of today it only takes one more little spark to set everything off!

Car Fuel And Fuel Cells

Fuel tanks corrode and debris accumulates inside over the years, this can clog the fuel filter much faster than on newer cars. Fuel cells are up to 80% efficient. They will get two or three times more energy out of hydrogen, than will a modified car engine.

Fuel System Icing Inhibitors (Anti-icing additives) reduce the freezing point of water precipitated from jet fuels due to cooling at high altitudes and prevent the formation of ice crystals which restrict the flow of fuel to the engine. This type of additive does not affect the freezing point of the fuel itself.

Fuel cells are a promising means of producing energy in the future. Some fuel cells, such as this one, do not consume fossil fuels and therefore are considered environmentally friendly. Fuel cell recharge time is short. Recharging a fuel cell only requires squirting in more fuel or putting in a new fuel cartridge.

Fuel pressure - manifold pressure will give you the pressure differential used to calculate injector flow for a given injector. This will through off any car, but will render this project COMPLETELY useless on forced induction car. Fuel includes gas, coal, oil, nuclear, wood, and other materials.

As one kilogram of these materials produces a different amount of energy, more useful comparisons can be drawn by comparing power. Fuel Cell 2008 is the fifth annual conference designed for organizations interested in learning more about and applying fuel cell technology. The conference provides an interactive forum for OEMs, designers, engineers and integrators to discuss the latest advancements in the industry.

Fuel Safes on-going commitment to quality and service is number one. Our on-going research and development is constantly discovering new and improved ways to make our products stronger, lighter and safer.

Fuel costs were up 20% for Southwest in the first quarter whereas American said its fuel costs were up nearly 50%, which wiped out profit for the nation's largest airline. On average, Southwest paid about $1.98 for a gallon while American, which hedged about 27% of its fuel use, paid $2.74 a gallon.

Fuel pumps can get hot before they die. Porsche recommends using Chevron fuel injector cleaner with Techron as a preventative maintenance on the fuel system; this will help keep the fuel injection components from clogging up, and keep them lubricated. Fuel had already laid down the instrumental tracks for their fourth album and soon started auditioning singers so the band could move forward.

The single shot up to the Top 10 download list on iTunes and stayed there for a number of days. Fuels such as turpentine, alcohol, aniline, and ammonia use nitric acid, hydrogen peroxide, and liquid oxygen as oxidizers. More power can be obtained by oxidizing hydrazine, diborane, or hydrogen with oxygen, ozone, or fluorine.

Fuel cells do get hot though, so the water comes out of the fuel cells as water vapor, or steam. Fuel use of Class 8 trucks, at 18 billion gallons per year, far exceeds that of commercial trucks in any other weight class. Class 6 and Class 2b use the next largest amount of fuel, but both are well under 4 billion gallons per year.

Fuel have also enlisted ex-Godsmack drummer Tommy Stewart, who had previously filled in for a handful of live shows after former drummer Kevin Miller left. Their first album was out around the same time as the first Godsmack record.

Fuel cells operate silently, so they reduce noise pollution as well as air pollution and the waste heat from a fuel cell can be used to provide hot water or space heating for a home or office.

How Hydrogen Fuel Conversion Can Help You Save

Technology has come a long, long ways in every field and autos running on water is no exception. Hydrogen fuel conversion is a technology that has been around for many, many decades. The Government chose to shoot it down when it very first surfaced well over 40 or so years ago and chose to outlaw it. I'm certain that they had their reasons, although I'm not sure just what those could have been.

Hydrogen fuel technology is not only a great fuel alternative but it great for the environment as well. The technology of hydrogen fuel conversion is one that could very well help us ease our dependency on fossil fuels, our main fuel resource, a fuel that produces carbon monoxide which is bad for the environment in that it greatly reduces air (oxygen) quality.

Hydrogen comes from water (H20) and has no toxic side effect that will harm the environment. The by product of hydrogen production is (H20) or water. Hydrogen fuel conversion kits installed on vehicles could drastically save by extending fuel mileage up to 50-75% thereby reducing costs because you are doubling or tripling mileages per gallon of fuel burned.

Although the technology has been around for decades it's been somewhat suppressed and what is common knowlege to very few is unacceptable in this case to many others. Surely this huge planet has resources not yet tapped and some thats still yet to be discovered. The use of fossil fuels along with other environmentally toxic chemicals, and the cutting down of far too many trees among other factors, is why our planet is heating up. My Point? Had we started using this very technology decades ago it could quite possibly have contributed in a big way to Global warming. But that's just one mans opinion.

Getting back to hydrogen fuel conversions,When mixed with air, extracted hydrogen from water turns into a very highly flammable mixture more commonly known as "Browns Gas" Now the name has nothing at all to do with the mixture but more so a person who had a hand in it's discovery. Yull Brown is the person that i'm referring to. There is great controversy surrounding the fact that mr. Brown in fact was or was not the person who discovered Browns Gas.

Nevertheless the conclusion was that Brown's Gas was in fact safe to use in 4 cyle engines considering you follow the engineers instructions on portions, and all the other variables needed to get it to the correct mixture to be used along with fossil fuels as a fuel for 4 cycle engines that is. Other applications my vary in these variables since Browns Gas has other useses as well.

With all of the controversy surrounding high gas prices all over the world many have turned their attentions to alternative full sources and hydrogen fuel conversions for autos have definitely been a topic that many have been researching. As stated above the extraction of this resource used along with our current fuel source may increase fuel MPG by as much as 75% in some cases while promising to lower fuel emmissions at the same time which helps the environment from toxic waste polluting the air.

Controversy has it's place here as well. Some agree and some disagree with the fact that this discovery is possible. Let me ask you though, If we can put a space ship into space, incidentally Brown's Gas is supposedly a possible fuel here as well, and if we can transplant or do surgery on the human heart, we had no hand in creating man, and in just a few days a person has extended life potential, do you think that just maybe we (man) who, infact invented the 4 cycle engine, could possibly make that 4 cycle engine run on another type of fuel extracted from water? Heck we know that engines run on used cooking oil, better known as Biodiesel and we accepted that. We accept the fact that sugar from candy is used in fuel for added octane for added fuel potency.

Hydrogen from water when mixed with air in a compressed state is very, very volatile and extremely dangerous. Just a spark near a small amount of this mixture could be catastrophic! Thats why harnessing it in the traditional way that we store fuel in our automobiles simply just would not work. As the hydrogen is being harvested it is being used simultaneously which does away with having to store it.

The good news is that there are actually many ways in which you can quickly and easily go green in very little time without the need to become overwhelmed by all of the green, eco-friendly terminology that surrounds us.

1. Begin by changing out your incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs. This is a very easy and fast way you can begin making a big difference within your own home. Not only will you be pitching in to help the planet, but you will also notice savings on your electric bill as well as the life span of your light bulbs.

2. Grab a re-usable bag and take it with you the next time you go shopping to avoid the need to use paper or plastic bags which contribute to waste levels.

3. Consider changing your transportation habits. When weather permits, ride your bike or walk to your destination. Consider grabbing a ride with a friend or co-worker or taking public transportation. You will reduce your own fuel costs as well as carbon emissions that pollute the environment.

4. When you are not actually using it, turn off the water, such as when brushing your teeth, rinsing your hair in the shower, doing the dishes, etc. You will save on your water bill as well as cut down on the world's water consumption.

5. Stop using items that are disposable, such as paper plates, paper towels, plastic cutlery, paper napkins, etc. These are small ways that you can make a huge difference in the amount of waste that is generated on the planet and must be handled. Opt for real plates, cups and cutlery and grab some pretty cloth napkins and dishcloths to clean up messes.

6. Opt for natural cleaning products. Not only are there are a lot of great natural cleaning products currently on the market, but you can also make your own cleaning products from items such as vinegar and baking powder in order to clean items even better and save money as well. While you are at it, use a re-usable spray bottle to cut down on waste.

7. Go meatless one day per week. The amount of energy that is required to feed livestock as well as manufacture it and ship it is tremendous. Going meatless one day per week will help to cut down on those energy costs as well as slash your grocery bill. In addition, you may find you are healthier as a result. Consider great high-protein dishes such as beans and legumes for alternatives.

8. Shop at your local farmer's market, provided that it is close-by. The produce is typically much healthier and often does not contain as many pesticides as store-bought produce. In addition, you will be doing your part to help the environment by reducing the amount of energy that is required for produce to be shipped in.

9. Compost scraps from your kitchen instead of tossing them in the trash. This is a great way to add back nutrients to the soil.

10. Turn off lights when you are not in the room and unplug appliances when you are not actually using them. This is a wonderful way to reduce the amount of energy that you use and also see savings on your electric bill.

Water Fuel Cells Technology Can Help Your Car Running on Water

In recent times, where oil prices are touching the sky, there has been the need for finding a better option to oil to reduce the dependency upon oil and gas as much as possible. It is an undeniable fact that the present high oil prices are forcing almost all countries, including oil rich nations, to think for some other substitute like water fuel cells based technology which would be helpful to run cars and even heavy vehicles on water.

The "water fuel cells" based concept is invention by American Stanley Meyer, who claimed that water can convert the required component elements to run the car, hydrogen and oxygen. In 1989, he designed the device to produce hydrogen and oxygen from water using electricity, by method other than water electrolysis. Meyer, during his experiments, he claimed that he could show how 1.6 liter Volkswagen dune buggy can be run on water instead of gasoline. Meyer had also demonstrated his skill for a station Action 6 News and showed the estimation that only 22 US gallons (83 liters) of water were enough to travel from Los Angeles to New York.

However, many auto experts believe that Stanley Meyer's invention was not "water fuel cells" in true sense but it would be more correct to name it as "electrolytic cell"

In U.S., the concept of "water fuel cells" is picking up great momentum, as people are eager to know more about it. The concept is the mixture of gasoline and water to generate enough propelling fuel to run the car on water. If this concept is widely used and auto manufacturers start producing "water fuel cells" technology based vehicles, billions of dollars could be saved, the precious oil as natural resources could be saved for use of many hundreds of years in future and we will live in more cleaner and healthier environment.

The recent trials of "water fuel cells" have shown very encouraging results. This system is fully reversible and does not damage the car anyway.

Please visit at water fuel cells to know more about this new concept to run car on water.

Five Easy Things You Can Do To Destroy The Environment

With Earth Day nearly upon us, and all of the talk about the damage that humans are doing to the environment, maybe you feel as though you aren't doing your part. Fear not, I've compiled a list of some very easy things that you can do to have the greatest impact on the environment in the shortest amount of time. So, without further adeiu, here they are:

Eat strawberries

I mean non-organic strawberries here. Strawberry production, as well as some grape, tomato, and other fruit production still uses Methyl Bromide as a pesticide and fungicide. Methyl Bromide (MB) is one of the most damaging chemicals to the ozone layer destroying ozone molecules 50 times faster than other ozone depleting compounds. While outlawed in 1987 as a part of the Montreal Protocol, a loophole called the "critical-use exemption" allows countries to continue to use the chemical if they decide that there is no suitable replacement. That exemption has prompted the Environmental Protection Agency to approve the use of 4,813.5 metric tonnes of the stuff for 2008. As an added benefit, the fruits and vegetables that are often produced using consistently rank at the top of the "most contaminated" list each year. See the "foodnews" link below for more information.

Drink Your Water

You should know this one already. The government suggests that you drink eight glasses of water per day, but why not drink those eight glasses out of a convenient plastic bottle? Everyone else is! Each hour, 2.5 million individual water bottles are thrown away in the United States alone. By using a plastic bottle, you get the added benefit of potentially consuming a chemical called bisphenol A (BPA) that comes from plastic which mimics natural estrogen. Too much estrogen can result in certain kinds of cancer as well as hampering fertility in some people.

Fill'er up With Biofuel

Two recent studies published in the journal Science provide an economist's view of the biofuel industry. Because biofuels are currently the subject of much venture speculation as well as government promotion, more and more farmers are jumping on the bandwagon. That means that the crops they used to produce that can't be turned into fuel are being farmed elsewhere, and more often than not, environmentally valuable lands are converted to agricultural lands instead. Time Magazine recently published an article illustrating how this macroeconomic phenomenon is played out in one of the more valuable carbon stores, the Amazon rainforest. In one photo, a tiny sliver of forest is seen against a sea of newly converted agricultural land. See the Time Magazine link below.

Eat Meat - Lots of Factory-Raised, Grain-Fed Meat

Those vegetarians have it all wrong. A great way to stick it to Mother Nature is to treat yourself to an extra helping of beef. If you, along with everyone else in America heeds the advice, it will have the same impact as putting an additional half million cars on the road. Imported meat is better because of the gas used to get it to you, but at very least, try to find some locally grown animal to eat. All the better if it was raised in a factory farm. The runoff created could have the added benefit of introducing bacteria into waterways and killing fish along the way. See the meatrix link below for more information.

Keep a Well-Fed, Well Watered Lawn

With water shortages looming all over the western US this summer, it would only be right if you had a nice looking lawn. A green lawn means using a lot of water and a lot of fertilizer. Water often, but especially during the hottest part of the day or whenever it is windy. Also, make sure to use lots of high nitrogen fertilizer to keep the lawn green. If you're really doing it right, you'll want to water heavily right after fertilizing heavily. Maybe the runoff created will take out any fish that are left.

Hydrogen Production From Air & Water & What it Means For Your Gas Mileage

Can hydrogen be extracted from air? If so, is it possible to use this hydrogen as an alternative fuel for our vehicles? As for creating it just out of air the airspeed would need to be increased until the wind chill makes droplets of water and use those droplets to separate the hydrogen. Being lighter than air, Hydrogen can then be taken as air is expanding back out.

Extracting hydrogen from gases, molecules or liquids that have more than four molecules also makes sense. Hydrogen does not occur in any significant amount by itself in nature. Therefore an electrolysis process must occur in order to extract the hydrogen.

Electrolysis of water is the decomposition of water into oxygen and hydrogen that is achieved by running an electrical current through the water. The battery in your car can be connected to the electrodes and will serve as an efficient source of power, then placed in water. Oxygen will show around the anode (positive electrode) and hydrogen will show up at the cathode (negative electrode). The amount of hydrogen created is normally two times more than that of oxygen and both are in proportion to that electrical charge that was sent into water.

Electrolysis can be sped up by adding salt or even baking soda that will result in a quantity usable for vehicle engines. This type of conversion is fairly easy to do and there are many kits and guides available as well if additional help is needed.

Improve Your Air Conditioning Performance by Up to 30%

Fantastic, you have bought your air conditioning. Your home is feeling comfortable. And the last three months have been great. You have never been more comfortable. But then you get your electricity bill. "Oh my God! Your kidding , honey, don't use the air conditioning, we cant afford it. Our electricity bill is through the roof".

Well, here is the good news. You can reduce your energy bill dramatically by doing some very simple things. Number one is have good curtains on your windows. This traps the hot or cold air in your home. You see glass has no insulating qualities. This means that your air conditioned air is floating straight out of the window.

The next thing is make sure you have installed at least R3 insulation in your ceiling. This is most important because you can increase the performance of your system by up to 30%. See if you can put a better thermostat system in your home so that the air conditioning can monitor temperature in the correct area. Most systems I see only have one sensor which is located in the hallway. This means that the whole home needs to achieve temperature before the unit will switch off. This is the biggest problem I see in air conditioning design. (It is also expensive to rectify when you have installed your system)

Finally, close doors to areas that are not in use and turn off the relevant zones. Also, put door stops in the gaps to your external doors as the air drawn in from outside reduces performance by up to 10%. These tips will improve the performance of any ducted air conditioning or split system air conditioning.

Till next time

Stay cool

The Twin Draft Guard Saves You Money

Obtaining the ideal room temperature that you desire can be quite challenging with air entering into your place of residence. The Twin Draft Guard serves as an ideal resolution for this problem.

This door draft stopper keeps air from outside entering your house. By blocking the draft of air emerging from underneath your doors, the Twin Draft Guard keeps your air circulation system from over working. Would a room maintain ideal temperature with a window opened slightly or sealed closed?

The answer is pretty apparent; a tightly sealed, fully closed window will keep your room temperature ideal for longer periods of time. The Twin Draft Guard fixes this problem by keeping the air from outside of your house from entering inside.

When I was informed about this device and its benefits, I was rather curious. First, applying the Twin Draft Guard was really easy - just slip it underneath your door. It fits easily under most average sized doors. It has proven to be very effective in keeping air out.

In the past, I have used a variety of items, such as towels, to place underneath my door in the event of severe winters in order to retain the heat in my house. These methods were rarely effective, and were always a large inconvenience. Fortunately, I came across the Twin Draft Guard, which efficiently keeps out all of the unwanted air during extreme weather conditions with much more ease and effectiveness than any other method I have ever attempted.

Although many infomercials exaggerate the effectiveness of a product that is, in reality, an item that is not worth purchasing, the Twin Draft Guard actually has proven to decrease my spending on energy. Much emphasis is put on the fact that this is an energy-saving product, and although the savings are not huge, I have honestly seen an 8-10% decrease in my household's energy consumption.

Saving even a modest $5 every month utilizing the Twin Draft Guard makes it a worthy purchase. At this rate, within three months the product pays for itself, and afterwards it's the same as earning an additional $5 each month. I have found that this door draft stopper was an extremely worthwhile investment, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to decrease their spending on energy consumption throughout their household.

I would recommend that you consider the Twin Draft Guard as a way to help you to conserve energy. I am glad that I made the purchase and I really feel great about the results. I hope that the Twin Draft Guard will serve you well as well.

Travis is a business entrepreneur. He has started several small businesses and is passively searching for ways to make additional money. Save energy with the Twin Draft Guard and find out additional info at his Twin Draft Guard Review website.

Instructions to Build a Wind Generator - Building Wind Generators Instruction

Find good instructions to build a wind generator is an absolute must in order to get the results you want. Building wind generators is a smart option since the price of new ones can run into the thousands of dollars.

It certainly is not difficult but the project needs to be done in the right order using the proper materials if you are going to succeed.

Where do you start?

· First with detailed instructions to build a wind generator
· Some shop space where you can work
· Common tools- cordless drill, wrenches, jigsaw, etc.

We usually start with the blades but first you need to order the DC motor used as a power generation unit. The plans show you where to get one, and even have it shipped directly to your home.

It only costs about $150 to build the entire wind generator (including the cost of the instruction plans) and the DC motor will run you about $30.

It seems amazing that manufactured models cost thousands of dollars when the parts can be obtained so cheaply.

Onto the blades next, while you are waiting for your DC motor follow the instructions to build a wind generator and make your blades.

The best balanced home wind power machines have 3 blades, and you can make them out of PVC for smaller machines. If you want to make a 1000w wind generator as we recommend to provide power for your home you will need blade lengths of at least 4 feet, forming total blade diameters of 8 feet.

These larger machines need to have the blades made from straight, clear knot free wood. We use cedar usually, but any hardwood or spruce works well too. Use the best quality lumber you can find.

Don't worry that making your blades is too complicated either. Simple wooden blades can be made easily in a day with your detailed instructions to build a wind generator.

The plans also show sources of free deep cycle batteries and even free wind towers (used TV towers) that you can use to keep your costs down.

It's exciting when your DC motor arrives and you can put it all together. The body and tail can be fashioned according to your own tastes and available material. This is where you can add your own flare, with colors and designs you prefer.

Bright yellows, reds and blues are what we have used along with easily obtained free stainless steel for the body.

The first time your own wind machine starts spinning and producing free electricity for your home it's a great thrill. No more electricity bills. Isn't it time you got started?

Instructions To Build A Wind Generator is the best place to start for your own wind machine project and instructions to build a wind generator of your own.

Our family has been living off the grid since last year, and loving every minute of it. Finding instructions to build a wind generator helped us the most by providing fast efficient charging of our renewable energy system at a great reasonable price.

Electric car inventor to US house of representatives

In the article of the the inquirer, a new story was revealed:

A. BOFFIN told the US House of Representatives that a US electric car infrastructure could be set up for the price of only two months' worth of oil.

Shai Agassi CEO of Project Better Place argued thats for "$100 billion, we can put in place the infrastructure needed to power the nation’s cars and end this oil dependence".

One of the places to read about the potential and power of the electric car and see a video of the vision at the "project better place" website. They offer a vision by which all the cars in the US will be electric cars, that will be a ble to be charged everywhere. They will install new electric stations to replace the battery when needed, and a charging station in each block and parking space.

I think that this vision is still too expensive.
The other problem is - from where all the electricity will come from? - is it from burning fossil fuels...?

Which are the leading companies that use green energy?

The Green Power Partnership announced the top 25 companies using green energy as resource.
The leading companies are Intel, Pepsi and the US air force. As they say:

"These green power purchases help reduce the environmental impacts of electricity use and support the development of new renewable generation capacity nationwide. Purchase amounts reflect U.S. operations only and are sourced from U.S.-based green power resources. Organizations can meet EPA purchase requirements using any combination of three different product options Renewable Energy Certificates, On-site generation, and Utility green power products."

This is a great increase in the use of green energy, demonstrating the ability to turn our industry to green energy.
The EPA is producing this report several times every year and you can see their results of previous years.
There is also a report of the "100% Purchasers", In which Pepsi is leading at the top of the list.
I would suggest to compensate these companies with reduced tax, in order to encourage others to follow their leads in the green energy world.

Wind Turbine Blade Design - Designing Wind Turbine Blades

When we decided to build a wind generator we figured that the wind turbine blade design would be the hardest part to figure out. When we looked at the design of modern manufactured wind machines the blades looked like they had been designed by computer programs and cut out with some very expensive manufacturing machinery. How could we learn wind turbine blade design for ourselves?

First we had to look at our objectives.

- Simple system for making blades

- Consistent wind turbine blade design

- Find materials that were inexpensive

- Design blades quickly every time

The first hurdle was to decide what kind of materials would work best and then figure out a design. We wanted to use readily available materials that could be quickly obtained. The search lead us to an interesting source in PVC pipe. Our good friend Paul had told us of this resource that he read telling him that PVC pipe; big pipe could be used for blades.

We studied the material that he sent us and agreed that we should be able to find good blade material in large sewer pipe used for industrial purposes. Paul even showed us where we could get the material for free.

It worked well except that cutting the pipe was difficult because it would cut and then melt back together. We solved the problem by using a large tooth wooden blade in our jigsaw.

The wind turbine blade design proceeded smoothly with us cutting the pipe on the angle that was indicated in the plans. It is offset slightly because the wind pressure on the outside tips of the blades is much greater than the pressure near the hub. The angle of the blade has to compensate for this fact by being turned slightly more at the tip. It really isn't that difficult to lay out.

We wanted to explore all possibilities of materials so we went back and studied some old articles and books finding some interesting information first published by Marcellus Jacobs of the Jacobs Wind Company. Mr. Jacobs first made wind generators commercially in the 1930's and continued for some 20+ years until Rural Electrification Program put an end to demand for rural wind generators.

He used wood for his blades and they were cut from a single piece of wood. We figured to try this and it worked well too according to the plans to build a wind generator we had found. The blades are easily made and set on an angle to catch the wind effectively.

Do you want more information? The following website should be able to help you with all of your questions.

A Wind Turbine Blade Design website has helped us and it will help you too. Just check out the link to the left. Wind turbine blade design follows just a few easy patterns and is not that difficult. You may not end up with a perfectly engineered blade but your wind generator will function very well. So don't let building your own blades stop you from learning how to build a wind generator.

Our family has been living off the grid since last year, and loving every minute of it. Learning how to build a wind generator was one of the most important solutions to the problems of off grid living we faced and learning wind turbine blade design was not as difficult as it first appeared.

Peak Oil and the Looming Energy Crisis

The world is rapidly approaching and may even have passed peak oil production. Given the lack of serious alternative energy production facilities in place, our reliance on coal and oil may well have very immediate and significant political, social and economic consequences.

What is Peak Oil Production? This refers to the point where production of oil cannot meet demand, thereby causing a shortfall. This does not necessarily relate to the actual quantity of oil in the oil fields, but rather the rate at which it can be extracted and refined. The reality of Peak Oil is also unrelated to the origin of oil. There has been a debate running for some time as to the origin of oil. Some deposits suggest a fossil source, whereas others suggest that the oil is generated deep within the earth between the magma and the crust. This is known as the abiotic oil theory.

Global use of energy is rising exponentially with every year seeing an increasing amount of oil being consumed. The rate at which it is rising varies between countries, but developed nations have an average of about 4% increase annually. China is currently consuming far more than this and is now one of the largest oil consumer nations. This continual rise has put pressure on oil production and reserves so that there is little if any capacity for accommodating fluctuations in demand or supply. This has meant higher prices at the pump not just for motorists but for all fuels which has affected everything from food prices to the cost of air travel.

Virtually everything we consume is at least in part dependent on oil. Plastic products are the obvious example and we are now completely reliant on them. They not only form the basis of most household items like televisions, kettles, sandwich wraps and so on but are also important as insulators in electrical circuits. Even the wheelie bins we use to dispose of our waste are now made from plastic. Without oil these plastics cannot be produced as the basic unit of plastic production, called ethene, is made primarily from steam cracking of refined oil.

It is an unavoidable fact that if we continue using more and more energy we will reach a point where not only prices for fuel, food and commodities will skyrocket, but we will then be unable to meet these needs on a global scale.

In order to avoid this situation immediate action is required. We need to wean ourselves off oil. While this will no doubt require Herculean effort we cannot afford to shy away from this task. Governments and industries need to make this their top priority by becoming more energy efficient and also be investing heavily in proven renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. Individuals also need to be involved in reducing energy consumption and adding pressure to Governments to hasten the change from oil to a cleaner and sustainable energy supply.

Green Energy in the UK

The latest reports regarding the use of "green" eco-friendly power have given some surprising, but pleasant, information on the subject of the United Kingdoms fuel habits since last year.

Money put into green power this year has hit £75 Billion, which is an increase of a massive 60% from the previous years UN Environment Programme (UNEP) report. The statement goes on to say that a continuing increase of oil prices, concerns over climate change and energy supplies and better promotion from the government are behind the rise of usage.

The methods most favoured by the public are wind power and solar power, with more people than ever are setting up personal wind generators and solar panels on their homes.
The UNEP has forecasted that by 2012 around £280 Billion will be spent each year on projects improving and developing already existing green energy ventures, and even expect it to double by 2020.

Most of the current investments have been supplied to Europe and the United States. However there are more projects being targeting to China, India and Brazil being progressed.

Unfortunately the wind power developers have suffered during the first few months of this year, as due to the credit markets becoming coming tighter, they were unable to finance themselves. However the rest of the green energy spectrum had continued to grow and become stronger.

There is much in the pipeline for this area of business too, with a lot of governments within the EU and America confident that many businesses will take advantage of the growing awareness of fossil fuels rapidly running out, and seizing the businesses opportunities while the media and general public are concentrating on it. This in turn will of course help the planet as a whole as green energy will become not only more popular but more accessible too.

This past month, the United Kingdoms energy minister, Malcolm Wicks has stated that the whole of Britain would undergo a "Green revolution" and that the government plans to fit a quarter of new homes with solar panels and erect "thousands" of new wind turbines.

With gas and electricity prices continuing to rise, it is good news that the government plan to ensure the UK has renewable sources of electricity and utilities.
